Who Are We?
Hello! I am delighted to be teaching elementary library classes again at Trombly and Defer. I was a Grosse Pointe parent long before I became a teacher here, with three kids now all graduated from GPSHS--one now finishing a doctorate on Ancient Roman History at UNC, another starting a doctorate in Classics at Yale, and our youngest teaching English in France. Unlike almost everyone, it seems, I'm not a Michigan native, having grown up outside of Washington D.C. I went to college in Pennsylvania (BA, Swarthmore College) and to graduate school in New York City (MS. Early Childhood/Elementary Education, Bank Street College of Education), where I taught 4th grade for several years before moving west. In Minnesota (brrr!), I taught 5th grade before shifting my efforts to museum education, developing interactive materials, exhibits, and teacher training workshops for art and local history museums in Minneapolis and then in Springfield, MA. Finally settled in Grosse Pointe, I earned my MLIS (Masters in Library and Information Science) from Wayne State University, where my husband teaches in the Law School. I have been happily encouraging students to value libraries and love reading as much as I do ever since.
